Hi, here is a selection of some of the veg we had growing in the garden this summer…..
The purple French bean has such beautiful coloured flowers, its a stunner in the veg garden. When cooked theses delicious beans turn from purple to a dark green, so to enjoy their purple splendour try adding them raw to seasonal salads.
As the name suggests you would think it is a climbing french bean but in fact it is an upright dwarf growing French bean.
Two of my absolute favourites in the veg garden have to be Ruby Chard and Perpetual Spinach. They are so easy to grow and you can sow the seeds directly outside in their final positions. I love to use the smaller leaves in salads and as they get bigger just cooking their stems and leaves simply in a stir fry or steamed. Just keep picking as they do have a tendency to run to seed especially in warm weather. Ruby chard has a great flavour, the stems tasting like beetroot I think, I love it and it looks fab in the garden showing off its vibrant red stems.
Young broad beans and Peas, just pod them and sprinkle them over an early summer salad leaf salad.
Mange Tout in French the words mean eat the lot and I did every time I walked past them. Best just pulled off the plant and eaten there and then, delish!
Perpetual spinach, it just went on and on and on! The more I picked the more it grew.
